Connecting Global Education Communities

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with my first findings relating to connecting with global education communities, I kept coming across website that wanted me to join or pay for a membership. I didn't want a membership if I couldn't even look at the site... So I explored some of my classmates findings and felt motivated to find a better resource. As I continued to look I came across Nation Peace Corps Assosiation, and believe it or not it had a fantastic out look on connecting educators and parents globally.
The site provides educational resources and promotes students knowledge of, understand of, and respect for the people, cultures and nations of the world. The provide many global resources for educators and parents including:

  • Educators Toolbox-Global issues
  • Classroom Materials
  • Millenniun Development Goals
  • Teacher Professional Development
  • Newsletters
  • Mentoring
The site also include critical thinking lesson plans for students around the world based on world issues. Educators can post questions or resources for other educators around the world to review and respond to.

  1. I liked this website alot. I know peacecorp is a big organization in U.S and one of my friend went to the Africa as a volunteer two years ago. I was surprised they shared many ideas even after she came back.. This website will help to many educators

  2. I had a hard time at first, too, finding anything to do with global education communities. I had expected there to be a lot more information and resources, but it took some digging.
The peace corps site seems like a wonderful resource, especially since it is geared for teachers, with lesson plans and a forum that allows teachers around the globe to post and respond to questions. I will have to save this link for future use!
I did a little exploring and found a section about fair trade items. I just *had* to look up some fair trade chocolate retailers --here is the link to the list: http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/fairtrade/cocoa/retailers.html
I still have yet to find someone who sells really good Samoan sun-dried ground cocoa beans, but I think I am one step closer AND I am learning about a global issue. Thanks! ;-)

The site that you found, the Peace corp, is a great tool. I checked it out and it had some really cool idea thing that I think kids could have a lot of fun with. Once again Jeanell you have found a really cool site.

  4. I find that more and more I have that problem with all types of websites. If you want to look at anything they want you to pay for it. But I am glad that you kept looking because that looks like a great website. I think that it is important for the older elementary students to start thinking about the world around them, and how they have an effect on what happens. This website is a good place to start that.

  5. I too had difficulty at first, I definitely had to re-word things in google search to find sites especially ones that were free. I would have never thought of peace corps as a resource so I am glad you found this and shared it :)

  6. I had never thought about the Peace Corps as an option, but this sounds really neat. If you haven't already, go look at epals.com. It's free and amazing.
